One of my goals this past summer was to learn a little more about America's history & the people that formed this great country.  It has been an interesting journey, and I continue to be amazed at all that was involved. 

The sacrifices were enormous - on a very personal level.  Serving your country was an honor - and often without pay.   Two things that keep repeating themselves throughout my study are #1) the WISDOM!!  Our Founding Fathers were very wise old men!  They were very well-rounded and... well....WISE!!  The other thing is #2) their deep & abiding faith in God.  Anyone that says this country wasn't built on religious principles better study history!!

That brings me to this book BATTLEFIELDS & BLESSINGS that I found a couple of weeks ago.  It is FABULOUS!!  It is set up to be a type of daily devotional, combined with a story each day from the Civil War.  Quite often there is an actual letter from a soldier.  Again, I am struck with the deep religious beliefs and dependence on faith from these soldiers.

So if you're looking for something along this line of reading - let me HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book!!  While I'm at it - let me highly recommend you join me & go back to study the founding of this country.  It might surprise you, too!!

Can this set be any more versatile??!!

 Seriously!!  "Lovely as a Tree" - if you know Stampin' Up! at all, then you MUST know this set!!  It has been around for a few years, and every year I find a new use for it.  This year, it's my nephew, Bill.

Bill is in the military - overseas right now.  He is one of those rare guys that really does send out Christmas cards!!  I love him for that!!  

Steve & I sent him a little gift box last week and I decided to include a set of cards for him to send to his friends.  Sounds pretty simple, right??  Well, when you start making cards for guys to send - you have to think "without ribbons, without jewels, without glitter" LOL!!  That's hard!!

So I settled on this ONE stamp from "Lovely as a Tree" and stamped the image over & over.  How simple is that?!!  I was very pleased with the results.

Oh, and I included a note to him that said "be glad you aren't female or these cards would have had glitter all over them!!"  bwahaha!!  He will get a chuckle out of that.

So there's a simple card idea if you have a big stack to make this year OR if you just want a few for yourself!  I used Handsome Hunter ink & cardstock.

They were shipped Priority Mail on Saturday, but with Monday being a holiday, they probably won't be delivered until today or tomorrow.

Welcome to the Neighborhood

My cousin recently moved from New Jersey to Kansas City, and I wanted to send her a little house-warming gift.... with a card.  I remembered this set that I got a while back (and had never used!!) so I pulled it out for this special occasion.

I love this front door!!  It's the cat's meow!  hmm... I should've added a little kitty by the front door!!

Here's the rest of the card...

The door was easy to "open" by simply using my cutting knife and tracing the upper & lower parts, then cutting down the middle.  I placed a coordinated piece of DSP behind it to show when it is opened.  VERY simple!  Trust me on that!!

All of the papers, inks & accessories are from SU! - but the stamped image is not.  I am NOT TRYING TO TEASE YOU now, but as a SU! demonstrator, I cannot post the name of the company here OR supply the link!!  But if you email me, I will be happy to tell you who makes the stamp set, and answer any other questions you might have.  It is still current - I checked!!

I will, however, be happy to tell you that I sent her a gorgeous SCENTSY CANDLE set that I ordered online from my gorgeous friend, Emma!!  Thanks, Em!!  I know she's going to love it!!  I loved the very fast shipping, too!!

Did you ever wonder.....

For some folks this is a toy, for others it is a tool, and for a few it is a...shall I say it?... a nuisance!!

Has it ever occured to you that it could actually be your lifesaver??

It occured to me that if I were ever in a serious accident - unconscious maybe - and someone stumbled upon me, I would want them to call my husband or some other family member.  But if they looked at my cell phone, how would they know who "Steve" is, or who "Adam" or "Andy" are?? 

That prompted me to CHANGE THEIR IDENTITY in my cell phone to.....HUSBAND, SON, MOM, BROTHER, etc.  Let there be no doubt who to call in an emergency!!

If this is information that you could use, please share this blog post with your friends!!!  In fact, let's start a mini revolution so that it becomes a common thing to have your spouse or family member listed as such in your cell phone.  Doesn't that sound simple?  And SMART??!!
