Lite Summer Reading!

Didn't I promise you that I'm reading FUN books this summer, too?!!  I just finished both of these - the first 2 in a new series by Karen Kingsbury.

If you're not familiar with this author, she has written numerous books - many of them in series such as these.  She is a Christian author, and her stories always leaving you wanting more!!

In fact, the main characters in these books - Bailey and Cody - were first introducted in another recent series called "The Above the Line" series....which included "Take One", "Take Two", "Take Three" and "Take Four".  Awesome series!!

Wanna know what's next on my book pile??  Well, it's a toss up between "Abigail Adams" by Woody Holton... a real thick, small print book (uugghhh!!!) OR... one called "Every Day in Tuscany" by Frances Mayes....the same author that wrote "Under the Tuscan Sun", which became one of my favorite movies!  Guess which one I'll read.... well, my money is probably on the Tuscan one!!  LOL!!

Baby Pottamus

A friend of mine recently had a baby boy, so I sent her this little baby 'pottamus blanket to wrap up her sweet new bundle.  Isn't he too cute?!!

Along with a gift goes a card!  This time I used one of my favorite techniques of reverse chalking.  This is called several different things -- so I'm keeping it simple by calling it exactly what you do!

For this effect, just rub any light colored chalk (pastel) on a dark colored cardstock.  Then ink up a wheel OR a stamp with VersaMark- I used a wheel in this case - and roll it across the cs with the pastel on it.  The VersaMark will pull the chalk off the cs ONLY where it touches, leaving this awesome image.  Fun, huh?!!

Now I'm off to do a little more summer reading!  This time, it's reading for fun.  All work & no play....well, you know the scoop!

Independence Day

Happy 4th of July!!!

I changed the name of my post so the emphasis is on our countrys' Independence.  That seems to get overlooked a lot these days - and that IS the reason for all the celebrations.  So please do me a favor today, when you celebrate the day.....CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE!!  Celebrate those that have gone before us and given so much - so that we could have freedom.  Please hold that freedom dear!!

Just for fun, I wanted to share my door decor.  That's me in the shadow, BTW!

Last night we were treated to an outdoor concert by ETSO (East TN Symphony Orchestra) - followed by fireworks - in our little town of Collegedale.  WOW!!  Seriously, we were blown away!!

I'm still amazed this morning at the incredible music -- followed by one of the most spectacular fireworks display that I have seen in YEARS!!!  And all of this from this tiny little town of Collegedale, TN.  Who knew?!!

There were tons of state politicians, state representatives, etc.  There were tons of PEOPLE, and it was incredible.  The crowds were beautiful - little kids running around playing - and everyone smiling.  We have a park - Veterans Park - with several displays.  As the picture shows, they are very "hands on" displays.  The little kids had so much fun on the tanks!!

The music.....SO PATRIOTIC!!!  It's good to be back in the south - and hear the symphony play Dixie!!  I haven't heard that in a while either!!

Andy, Adam & Katie joined us.  That certainly made the evening complete :)

So today I wish all of you a HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!  I hope you take a moment to remember how we got here.  And then realize how quickly it can all be lost.
