This is my latest creation, and I am OH.SO.PROUD!
Not everyone gets a 40-year-old shed with a brand new home. I mean, what is it with contractors that they can't think 40 years ahead & go ahead & build a shed on the property? Really?? LOL!
We DID purchase a new home, but it was on an existing property that had this gorgeous little shed. I took ownership of this baby right away! It didn't exactly look like this, though....it basically looked like a 40-year-old, raggedy old shed. That's where paint & flowers come in!
For Mother's Day, Andy and Misty gave me this climbing Bouganvilla vine (right side) that has the most beautiful red flowers. I knew it had to be featured in a prominent place! The problem was that the house had been completely landscaped on the front & sides, so I didn't have a lot left to work with, unless I went to the back - and that was NOT going to happen! That's when the shed caught my eye. So I immediately went out to Ace hardware & purchased this trellis. Loved it on the spot! I could just see the beautiful vine in my mind!
Next, the 3 pots of lillies that we brought down with us from WVa. They used to sit in between the garage doors. Aren't they lovely here?? I actually had thought they would be forgotten here & wither away - but not now!
Next....my dear, sweet hubby made the shutters from his scraps of wood!!! He's the best!! I asked him to make them, and to make them look as old as the shed. What a great job he did! All it took was a little paint, which I also added to the door...um....on top of the 12 or so coats of paint that were already on the door! Lastly, I "antiqued" the door & shutters with a scruffy old brush & some dark brown paint.
The finishing touch is the little shovel on the door - a gift from my dear friend, Marge Disbrow, of SOUTH JERSEY STAMPERS. Marge gave this to me many, many years ago & I have always treasured it. Before putting it outside I gave it a very thick coat of polyurethane spray.
So that is my latest creation! I hope it makes you smile as much as it does me!!
